AMBER ALERT: Toddler missing after car stolen in Cayce

Police say 2-year-old Carlee Folk and the family dog have been found safe. The suspect, however, is still at large.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has cancelled an Amber Alert and officials say a two-year-old girl who had been abducted has been found safe, along with the family dog. The suspect, however is still at large.   

While no details were immediately available, the Cayce Department of Public Safety announced that Carlee Folk had been found safe shortly before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. "We are thankful to announce that she has been found safely. We will provide details as we are able."

Just before 1 a.m., officials with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department said the search for the suspect was continuing near Happy Town Road and Fallaw Road in Gaston, with K-9s on the ground.

On Tuesday night, official activated an Amber Alert, saying the toddler was abducted by a male driving the mother’s stolen 2003 Lexus Sedan 300 with no tag. Carlee was in the back seat, along with the family dog.

Officials said Carlee was in a car at the Quality Inn on Charleston Highway in Cayce around 8:50 p.m. when a male jumped in the front seat and drove away with the child in the car. A white dog was also in the car.

The car was described as a tan 2003 Lexus sedan with no license tag, a broken tail light, a dent in the front passenger door and a white sticker with 3 small bears on the back window, according to officials.  

Officials say the suspect is approximately 5'7" with a thin build and short dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and dark color shoes.
