Charges dropped in Offset phone-smacking incident

The Migos rapper was accused by a teen fan of breaking his phone last month.

ATLANTA — Criminal charges against Atlanta rapper Offset have been dropped after he allegedly smacked a phone out of a teen's hand while they tried to film him inside a Target store last month.

An 18-year-old fan accused the Migos rapper, whose legal name is Kiari Cephus, of hitting the phone out of his hand at a Sandy Springs Target store as he recorded him checking out.

Sandy Springs Police subsequently issued a warrant on felony charges of criminal damage to property in the second degree.

The video was posted by TMZ. It showed the fan, Richard Gibbons, turning the phone in selfie mode and capturing Offset as he walked toward him.

“What’s up Offset?” he said, as the rapper appeared to bat his hand at the phone.

According to Sandy Springs Police, “all parties involved came to an agreement” and the charges now have been dismissed by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
