Man found shot outside Atlanta City Hall faces charges for alleged involvement in nearby downtown homicide, police say

Police said the two incidents are connected. The scenes were less than a mile apart.

ATLANTA — A man who showed up outside the Atlanta City Hall shot is now facing charges after detectives connected him to a nearby homicide, police said.

Atlanta Police Department said officers at city hall were flagged down for assistance to help Jason Foster, 27, who had been shot. He was taken there in a private vehicle Monday around 2:23 p.m. Foster was then taken to the hospital where he is recovering. Law enforcement originally said they detained the driver of the vehicle.

Police then responded to 210 Peters Street SW, which is the address for the Smith & Porter Apartments where they found 27-year-old Robert Kirkland shot to death about 30 minutes later. The complex is less than a mile away from city hall.

In a Tuesday update, authorities said Foster now faces murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and gun possession charges after they found Kirkland dead.
