District attorney: Husband waited 13 hours to call for help in 'heinous case of domestic violence'

MCDONOUGH, Ga. — A McDonough man accused of taking a life will most likely have to spend the rest of his behind bars. The victim in the case was his wife.

The Henry County District Attorney's Office said a judge sentenced 29-year-old Davis Clay Chalfant to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

He pleaded guilty to felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery in connection with the death of his wife, Amber Chalfant. 

The district attorney's office said Amber was assaulted by her husband, who inflicted blunt force trauma to her torso.Amber was 25 years old when she died. 

According to prosecutors, on Sept. 5, 2018, investigators found her dead inside of their home on Creekside Way - but that wasn't until hours after she died. 

Officials said Davis Chalfant waited more than 13 hours to call for help.

“This was a heinous case of domestic violence,” Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo said. “This woman suffered tremendous abuse from the man she loved and trusted. We are satisfied that this man will the rest of his spend his life in prison for his actions.”

Investigators found a history of domestic violence between the couple. Amber was 25 years old when she died.
