Fourth suspect in Gwinnett storage unit double murders arrested after public tip

Robert Maurice Carlisle has been arrested after months on the run. A fifth suspect is still at large.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A fourth suspect has been arrested in the double murder of two men found in a Gwinnett storage unit, after being on the run for months.

Robert Maurice Carlisle AKA “Different” was arrested by an FBI SWAT team in conjunction with DeKalb County Police late Thursday night. He is described as a “violent gang member” in the press release from FBI Atlanta. Police found him at a home in Stone Mountain after a tip from the public, one day after a fifth suspect in the murders was identified.

Carlisle, 32, was wanted by Gwinnett County Police on state warrants for two counts of concealing the death of another, two counts of murder and two counts of participating in gang activity. He is currently held at Gwinnett County Jail, almost six months after the two victims, Derrick Ruff and Joshua Jackson, disappeared.

Robert Carlisle, 32, is charged in the murder of Derrick Ruff and Joshua Jackson, who were found shot to death inside a Gwinnett County storage unit.

Carlisle and four others are accused in the deaths of Ruff and Jackson, who both vanished from Athens just before Christmas in 2018. Their bodies were located by search dogs scouring unincorporated Lawrenceville in March 2019. Detectives said the men were shot to death.

On Thursday, Gwinnett County Police announced that Carlisle and two of the other suspects – Lesley Green and Shabazz Guidry, were all charged with felony murder. A fifth suspect, 30-year-old Philmon Chambers, was identified in connection to the deaths. He is currently behind bars in Athens for another crime, police said.

The fifth and final suspect, 29-year-old Justin Jamal Davis, is still at large.

Justin Jamal Davis has two active warrants for conspiracy to commit a crime and is being sought in connection with the deaths of two men whose bodies were found in a Gwinnett storage facility on March 17 - months after they went missing.

While the motive for murdering Ruff and Jackson is still unknown, detectives have said the crimes could be gang-related. In March, police said it did not appear that the victims had any known gang ties. There is no evidence released that shows the victims knew the suspects accused in their deaths and no murder weapon has been recovered.
