A former Fulton County detentions officer has been convicted on charges that he accepted $7,000 in bribes.
Robert James, 41, illegally referred inmates to Gloria Garcia, an employee of AA OK Bail Bonds Company, according to prosecutors, from June 2014 to June 2015.
An investigation found James encourages several inmates at Fulton's Alpharetta jail to use Garcia's bail bonding services. Under Georgia Law, law enforcement officials are prohibited from suggesting or participating in an arrestee’s selection of a bonding company.
James has been sentenced to five years of probation and fined $5,000 after pleading guilty to the charges. He has also surrendered his badge.
