A shooting at a gas station in Stone Mountain prompted a lockdown at two schools Thursday morning.

Around 7:45 a.m. DeKalb Police responded to the Chevron located at the intersection of N. Hairston Road and Central Drive after a 21-year-old man was shot in the back.

Police said the suspect and a witness walked to the gas station where the victim was, approached the suspect and shot him in the back before fleeing on foot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but is now stable.

The suspect is still at large. Police are looking for a black male wearing a black hoodie. They said he fled on foot towards the apartment complex near the gas station.

Police are currently questioning the witness who was seen with the suspect. It is unknown their connection.

Evidence has led officers to believe the shooting might have been drug-related and said they have recovered surveillance video from the gas station.

The shooting resulted in Hambrick Elementary and Stone Mountain High School being on lockdown, but a school official said the lockdown has been lifted. Police do not believe there is a further threat.
