GBI: Suspect attempts to run over deputy after police chase ends in crash

This story is developing.

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. -- Law enforcement officers say a man tried to run over a deputy during a police chase Friday afternoon and was shot.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, deputies began pursuit off Glade Road around noon following an attempted traffic stop.  The chase ended about 8 minutes later on Country Lane in Red Top Mountain Estates in Actworth.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that the Bartow County deputy wrecked the patrol vehicle. But the suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Charles Allen Brock, allegedly attempted to “run over the deputy” when he got out of his vehicle to continue the pursuit.

That’s when the GBI said a deputy shot the suspect who is still alive and in the hospital but listed in critical condition. A woman riding with him was uninjured in the incident but was taken into custody on unrelated charges.

Brock was wanted out of Cartersville, but the deputies involved in the chase did not know that, according to GBI.

No one else was injured during the incident.
