CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A grandfather and his girlfriend are facing charges after three children in their care were found malnourished with serious injuries.

Clayton County Police arrested 57-year-old Kenneth Pless and 34-year-old Nakhea Banes.

On August 10 around 10 a.m., the Department of Family and Children Services told police that they found a 6-month-old, a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old extremely malnourished, underweight and severely beaten.

DFACS said they were conducting a welfare check at a location on Barberry Drive near Hampton when they found the children in the conditions. Pless was the children's court-appointed guardian, according to police.

The 6-month-old, weighing only 8 pounds, was found bound to a car seat with the arms of the t-shirt worn, tied behind the child’s back.

Police said the X-rays of all three children revealed each had sustained, or currently have, broken or fractured bones.

Warrants were issued for Pless and Barnes' arrest. They were arrested and charged with three counts of cruelty to children-1st degree, aggravated battery, and contributing to the deprivation of a minor.

The children were taken to the hospital.
