GSP cruiser drives into creek after chase with DUI suspect

The suspect driver was drunk, driving on a suspended license and was on active probation.

ATLANTA - One person is in custody and a Georgia State Patrol trooper is at the hospital after a chase late Monday night.

According to Sgt. 1st Class Stacey Collins with Georgia State Patrol, a trooper saw a vehicle speeding at 9:58 p.m. and attempted to perform a traffic stop but the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Tyrone B. Breedlove, the vehicle fled.

The chase continued onto I-85 SB in the Clairmont area and then onto the connector southbound where the Breedlove exited at Metropolitan Pkwy.

The trooper attempted to perform the PIT Maneuver off of the ramp at the bottom of Metropolitan Pkwy where Breedlove's vehicle spun out across the ramp and into the wood area on the south shoulder. The trooper's vehicle slid straight across the ramp and went airborne, into the woods and creek below.

Breedlove then attempted to flee on foot but after an hour-long search in a wooded area, he was found and taken into custody, police say.

According to Sgt. 1st Class Collins, Breedlove was driving while drunk, driving on a suspended license and was on active probation.

GSP said there were also possible stolen items found inside his car. There was one passenger inside Breedlove's vehicle during the incident and she was transported to an area hospital for complaints of an injury.

The trooper is expected to be okay.
