Gwinnett police: Man shot woman to death, turned himself in - then ran

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Police say a man who turned himself in after shooting a woman in Gwinnett County has been apprehended after running a short time later.

Investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to the 5500 block of Estates Court south of Norcross on Friday night after a man called to report the apparent domestic incident where a woman was killed.

He later admitted to shooting the woman several times after the dispute. Police found her unresponsive in the bathroom of the home.

Authorities said the suspect turned himself in at the scene and was then handcuffed. However, the man then said he needed treatment for injuries he received in the fatal domestic dispute. That’s when he apparently attempted to make his escape.

However, with the help of K9 units, his escape didn’t last more than an hour and he was taken into custody a second time.

Police have not released the victim’s name pending notification of the family. They also withheld the suspect’s name as they continue to investigation the shooting.
