Shooting victim crashes car, goes down embankment along I-285, police say

It happened Tuesday afternoon.

ATLANTA — DeKalb County Police said Tuesday a person had died at a hospital after they were shot and crashed their vehicle along the interstate. 

A spokesperson for the department said on Tuesday around 10:10 a.m., they were called to investigate a shooting near the 1400 block of Montreal Road.

Investigators believe the victim pulled over on the access road and stopped. They said that's when a suspect on foot approached him and fired shots at the car.

The driver, who police later identified as Brandon R. Barnett, was able to travel a short distance and crashed before going down an embankment just south of I-285 South. He was taken to a hospital and died, they said.

DeKalb Police said Barnett was 39 years old.
