DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An inmate has been recaptured after escaping from a local hospital where he was taken for treatment.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, 35-year-old Torinto Antoine Christian of Decatur was originally arrested on April 13 and booked into the DeKalb County Jail on warrants for kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Investigators said Christian had asked for medical assistance while in his cell and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. While there, he slipped out of his handcuffs and escaped. He was on the run for about a week before members of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit caught up with him.

Christian was arrested Saturday evening at a gas station on Moreland Avenue in Atlanta.
