ATLANTA — Homicide investigators with the Atlanta Police Department have been called to the scene after someone discovered a body off of Jonesboro Road, Wednesday.

According to Atlanta Police spokesperson TaSheena Brown, officers were called to the 2500 block of Jonesboro Road around 3:30 p.m. after a witness said they uncovered a body in the nearby wood line.

After investigating further, police found a dead man who "appeared to have sustained trauma to his face," according to a statement from the department.

In addition to homicide detectives, the Fulton County medical examiner has been called to the scene. Both are searching for answers in the incident. Brown said the official cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.

Neither police nor the medical examiner's office has released the name of the victim or whether they know who he is. The agencies also haven't suggested how long the body had been there or what may have caused the facial trauma described in the preliminary report.

The location provided by police traces back to Colony South Mobile Home Park which is located less than a half-mile east of Brown's Mill Golf Course in South Atlanta.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as they become available.
