LAKE CITY, Ga. — A Lake City Police officer has been arrested and is facing charges in connection with a case regarding sexual exploitation of children.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Jonathan Balsam, 31, is being held at the Clayton County Jail.
GBI said he was charged with one count of obscene internet contact with a child, one count of electronically furnishing obscene material to minors, and two counts of violation of oath by public office.
The charges stemmed from a GBI investigation into allegations of possible sexual exploitation of children by Balsam through an online service.
GBI said the investigation is part of the ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, housed within the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, to identify those involved in the child pornography trade.
