Man accused of killing wife returned to Georgia 28 years later

The body was discovered by children as they dug a fire pit for a camp out back in 2011.

ATLANTA — The man accused of killing his wife - whose body was found decades later - has been taken back to Georgia from California.

Ann Margaret Berry seemingly vanished without a trace in July 1991. But that changed in 2011 when two boys digging a backyard fire pit for a campout discovered human remains - a skull, jawbone and bra strap - off of Welcome To Arnco Road.

Those bones, and the rest that were not yet uncovered by the children, were later confirmed as the missing woman.

The next year, warrants were obtained for her former common-law husband, Kevin James Lee. But it wouldn't be until years later that he was finally captured. U.S. Marshals found Lee, now 53, in Richmond, California on Oct. 18, 2018.

He was returned to Coweta County on Jan. 18 - almost 30 years after Berry was first reported missing. He now faces charges of murder and concealing the death of another.
