Man convicted for shooting victim in 'broad daylight'

Townes was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years to serve in prison and the remainder on probation.

MARIETTA, Ga. - Jason Lamont Townes has been convicted for shooting a man after a fistfight that ensued in July 2016.

The fight started outside of a barber shop located at 1151 Powder Springs Street. Patrons from inside the barbershop came out and attempted to break apart Townes, 41, and the other man when Townes pulled out a .45 caliber handgun from his waistband.

The victim attempted to run away but Townes chased after him and shot the victim in the leg.

Townes was convicted of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

"This defendant shot the victim from behind as he ran away from him, in a busy parking lot, in broad daylight. He had absolutely no regard for the safety of others," said Assistant District Attorney Rachel Hines.

Townes was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 10 years to serve in prison and the remainder on probation.
