Dacula area shooting suspect accused of shooting man while trying to break up fight

According to police, the victim got into an altercation which resulted in him being shot in the chest.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 35-year-old man died after he was found with a gunshot wound to the chest outside a home in unincorporated Gwinnett County near Dacula early Sunday morning, police said.

According to a release from Cpl. Jay Brewer, an officer from the Gwinnett County Police East Precinct responded to a person shot call in the 2500 block of Kachina Trail around 1:55 a.m.

The officer was told on arrival by family and friends that the victim was found in front of the home, Brewer said.

Brewer said that the witnesses told officers the victim had gone outside and gotten into a fight which resulted in him being shot in the chest. Police later reported that the shooter, Joe Perry, had gone outside to break up the fight by firing a single shot from his handgun which struck Towler in the torso.
