Man found shot in head near Atlanta's Inman Yard dies

Police said the victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he ultimately died.

ATLANTA — The mid-afternoon discovery of a man who was apparently shot in the head has police investigating exactly what led up to the violence in a northwest Atlanta neighborhood.

Atlanta Police responded around 4 p.m. to the 1700 block of Marietta Road in reference to a person shot. They found a man at the scene who was not alert nor conscious but was breathing at the time he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The victim later died.

The shooting happened in a neighborhood not far from Inman Yards - a large rail yard on Atlanta's northwestern side.

Police are still working out how the shooting came about and haven't released details on the victim or a possible shooter.
