They stopped him for an obstructed tag and following too closely. What deputies didn't know when they pulled over David Chavez-Ortiz was that he was trafficking several pounds of a deadly drug.
Troup County reported that they found 28 pounds of methamphetamine in the passenger compartment when a K-9 unit sniffed the drug out after the I-85 traffic stop around 8 a.m. Dec. 6. Chavez-Ortiz was also found to be an illegal immigrant and was driving without a valid drivers license.
