Man pulled over for minor infractions found with 28 pounds of meth

The suspect was reported to be in the country illegally and is being held without bond.

They stopped him for an obstructed tag and following too closely. What deputies didn't know when they pulled over David Chavez-Ortiz was that he was trafficking several pounds of a deadly drug.

Troup County reported that they found 28 pounds of methamphetamine in the passenger compartment when a K-9 unit sniffed the drug out after the I-85 traffic stop around 8 a.m. Dec. 6. Chavez-Ortiz was also found to be an illegal immigrant and was driving without a valid drivers license.

He was ultimately charged on the various infractions as well as trafficking meth and is sitting in Troup County jail with no bond.
