ATLANTA — A man was found shot dead near a southeast Atlanta church, police say.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, the man was found shot in the area of Liberty Baptist Church on Chamberlain Street around 1:40 p.m. Someone passing by saw him lying in the woodline near the church.
The 20-year-old man was not "alert, conscious, or breathing" and Grady EMS pronounced him dead on the church property, according to APD. They believe he may have been lying there for at least five to six hours before he was found.
According to Lt. Daniel Jenson with APD, the man was known around the neighborhood.
Authorities have yet to release any information on what may have led to the shooting.
