Man wanted in case where 2-year-old suffered brain injury captured in Texas

He will be extradited to Cobb County to face charges.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities captured a man in Texas nearly a month after a 2-year-old suffered a brain injury that resulted in irreversible damage, according to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said 27-year-old Pedro Tamayo is charged with aggravated battery and felony cruelty to a child.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on June 22. Deputies said the toddler flatlined twice in route to the hospital.

The sheriff's department along with the U.S. Marshals conducted multiple interviews and monitored areas that Tamayo would frequent. During the investigation, authorities discovered that Tamayo had been previously deported from the United States in 2012.

On Thursday, July 19, law enforcement officers learned that Tamayo had left Georgia might be in Dallas, Texas. The U.S. Marshals conducted surveillance and located Tamayo there where he was arrested.

He will be extradited to Cobb County to face charges.
