NEWNAN, Ga. — Police are calming fears in a Georgia city after a shooting ended up being accidental - and only involving the shooter.

Newnan Police said that the incident involved an "accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound" and happened in the area of Eastgate Apartments on Fairmont School Road. The injured person's condition hasn't been released.

"The Newnan Police Department has no reason to suspect that the surrounding community or the schools in the area are in any danger related to this incident," the department said in a social media alert around 3:45 p.m.

The incident happened roughly 200 yards from Winston Dowdell Academy, a public school off of the same road.
