Newnan pediatric dentist charged in road rage shooting

Lona Bibbs was arrested after a road-rage shooting involving her husband and another couple in a shopping parking lot.

A pediatric dentist was arrested after a road rage shooting in the parking lot of a Petsmart in Newnan.

It all started when, investigators say, Dr. Lona Demetria Bibbs, 44, was spotted driving aggressively behind a red passenger car on I-85 South Nov.25, then passing it and brake-checking the car and causing it almost to lose control.

A couple that witnessed the event told police they followed Bibbs as she took Exit 47 off the freeway. As the two cars approached each other at a red light, the male passenger said he rolled down his window and yelled an obscenity, telling Bibbs she was "going to f------ kill someone" with her driving.

Lona Demetria Bibbs-Walker has been arrested for a road rage incident in Newnan.

Investigators say Bibbs reacted by yelling racial slurs and threatening his life, yelling at him to get out of the car, saying, "I'll have a bullet for your f------ head." Another driver not involved in the argument also witnessed the exchange, according to investigators.

The couple drove away to a nearby Petsmart to go shopping.

Investigators say it all would have ended at that point, but Bibbs drove to her office, My Kidz Dentist, at 1741 Newnan Crossing Boulevard, and, she told investigators, she called her husband, Keith Walker, because "she knew he had a gun on him." She told police she normally carries a gun but it was in another vehicle.

Investigators say Bibbs and Walker found the other couple loading items into their car after shopping at Petsmart.

According to investigators, Bibbs pulled her Escalade behind the victim's Dodge Avenger and Walker parked his Ford F-150 pickup on the other side, blocking the car. Arrest warrants say they confronted the couple, and Walker had a pistol in his holster.

Bibbs told police the female driver pushed Bibbs and said, "get out of my face." The two women began physically fighting in the parking lot. When the woman's fiancé tried to intervene, Walker reportedly said, "touch my wife again and I'll f------ kill you," with his hand on his gun. The man told investigators he continued to try and break up the fight and Walker started to unholster his gun.

Claiming he was in fear for his life, the man pulled out a gun from his jacket pocket and pointed it at Walker's head. He pulled the trigger but the gun did not fire, according to investigators.

Walker reportedly drew his weapon from the holster and the man pulled his trigger again, firing two shots. One shot hit Walker in the right arm and chest, the other hit a car.

Witnesses told investigators Walker then ran off with the gun in his hand, while Bibbs and the other woman continued fighting. The other women sustained multiple injuries to her face, hands and neck, according to investigators.

Bibbs has been charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, battery and simple assault. The other couple is not facing charges at this time, according to Coweta County Sheriff's investigators.

Bibbs is now out on bond. Her husband is expected to surrender to police when he recovers from his gunshot wounds.

According to Bibbs’ biography on her My Kidz Dentist website, she has two children and earned her doctorate in dentistry in Nashville. She is originally from Chicago.

Bibbs has not returned 11Alive's calls for comment.
