One person shot near daycare center in DeKalb County

Here is what we know right now.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb Police said they were investigating a man that had been shot in front of a daycare center Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the 2200 block of Columbia Drive near Candy Cane City Learning Center before 8:30 a.m. According to police, a black vehicle pulled up behind a white vehicle at the intersection of Woods Drive and Columbia Drive. A passenger of the black vehicle got out to speak to the occupants of the white vehicle, firing a single shot inside.

The victim was reported in stable condition and is being transported to a local hospital. Both drivers fled the scene.

Police are now investigating whether those in the vehicles knew each other. Shiera Campbell with the DeKalb Police Department said officials are currently interviewing the victim and witnesses.

"There were a lot of people who were in the area when the incident happened," Campbell said. "There were people dropping their kids off at daycare as well as exiting the subdivision."

According to DeKalb County Schools, three schools -- Columbia High School, Columbia Elementary and Snapfinger Elementary schools -- had been placed on lockdown status as a precaution, but those have since been lifted.
