CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — An attempted robbery left a 19-year-old Clayton County mother critically wounded Sunday night, according to law enforcement officers.
Clayton County Police said Sijeria Parks was shot in the head as she and three others allegedly attempted to rob a man whom she invited into her home.
Police said they were called to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Chase Ridge Drive at around 9:30 p.m.
According to police, Parks invited a man over and then attempted to rob him with the help of three other people.
Parks' aunt, Angel Parks, says it was another woman in the apartment that brought the man there.
She said Sijeria, who is "fighting for her life," is a mother of two, just graduated high school and was preparing to go to cosmetology school.
"During the robbery attempt, the suspects did brandish a gun, at which time the male victim fired his gun at the suspects in an attempt to get away," a Clayton County Police release said.
Parks was apparently hit by that shot. Police said the man "was able to flee the scene and notify police of the incident."
They said he is cooperating with an investigation.
Police said Monday morning that Parks was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition. Police did not detail the status of the other three people involved in the alleged robbery.
