Police: Shootout after armed store owner confronts suspected robber of nearby restaurant

The two ended up in a gun battle after the business owner heard gunshots nearby.

DeKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Police say they are looking for a suspect who allegedly opened fire in a DeKalb restaurant before being confronted by the armed owner of a nearby business, Thursday.

According to DeKalb Police spokesperson J.D. Spencer, officers were called to Mrs. Winner's Chicken & Biscuits on Glenwood Road to reports of the robbery.

Witnesses told police that an armed suspect came into the restaurant and fired shots at people inside. Authorities said that person demanded money and then left.

But police said that a neighboring business owner apparently heard the gunshots and confronted the suspect as he left the restaurant. Spencer said that confrontation ended in a shootout between the two before the suspect made it to a vehicle and escaped.

Police aren't sure how much money the suspect left with or whether or not he was injured in the shootout. Police do know that no one else was injured in either shooting incident.

Authorities haven't provided any further information on the suspect aside from referring to him as "he" in an update later in the evening.
