DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Police in Douglas County have arrested a 16-year-old and charged him with murder after, they say, he shot and killed another teen he was playing video games with.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said that after midnight on Monday, they got a call from someone saying they’d heard a loud noise and saw a group of teens running out of a home.
Deputies investigated at the Lakeside Mobile Home Park in Lithia Springs, and found two teens had been in an argument at the home over a video game controller.
Police said it escalated to the point where 16-year-old Gabriel Cruz shot 17-year-old Gonzalo Gonzalez-Abara with a handgun.
Gonzalez-Abara died of the gunshot wound.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the case is still under investigation and that Cruz has been charged with malice murder and tampering with evidence.
