CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A person is in custody after he fired his gun at a Clayton County officer, authorities said.

It happened shortly after 1 a.m. at the Sundown Suites on North Main Street in Jonesboro.

Authorities said an officer responded to an armed person's call. When the officer made contact with a person matching the suspect's description, police said the suspect, 18-year-old Alejandro Guerra, pulled out a weapon and shot at the officer.

Police said the officer exchanged gunfire with Guerra, and hit the officer in her bullet-proof vest. The suspect ran away and the responding officer, along with other officers, followed.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody, and has since been charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, felony obstruction, criminal trespass and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. Officials said they found a face mask and gloves when they arrested him.
