Woman injured after shots fired in produce section of Kroger

The woman was found shot in the torso, Atlanta Police said.

ATLANTA — A woman was shot after an argument in an Atlanta Kroger store Thursday, police said.

Atlanta Police said two women got into an argument in the produce section of the store on 590 Cascade Ave. around 1 p.m. A man who was with one of the women pulled out a gun and started shooting, police said.

Officers responded to the store and found the victim shot in the torso.

Police said she was alert, conscious and breathing when she was transported to Grady Hospital.

A woman inside the Kroger at the time of the shooting told 11Alive's LaTasha Givens that the shooting happened inside the store. She said she was told to hide behind the pharmacy counter when the shots were fired.

"I heard them, I heard them. That's when the pharmacy told me, 'mama, you come back here.' That's what everyone in there call me, mama," the woman said. "I did not want to get shot, whew Jesus. It was frightening and all I wanted to do was just get out of the way, and that's what I did."

Employees and customers were told to clear the store and hours later, many were seen waiting outside to be let back in.
