Atlanta Public Schools to provide food for spring break on Saturday, go to once-a-week distribution after

The school system will still be providing breakfast and lunch meals but they will be distributing once a week.

ATLANTA — One of Georgia's largest school systems will be pausing its food distribution services for spring break and then coming back under a one-day-a-week setup for the remainder of the school year.

The announcement comes one day after Gov. Brian Kemp signed a statewide shelter-in-place executive order to help slow the spread of coronavirus. Schools are also closed to students through the end of the school year; though, learning continues from home.

However, even during Spring Break, the school system intends to help with providing food ahead of time.

Atlanta Public Schools announced on Friday that it had arranged for families to pick up a weekly supply of shelf-stable groceries on Saturday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

These supplies will be available while supplies last from the following schools:

  • Bunche Middle School - 1925 Niskey Lake Rd., SW
  • Cleveland Avenue Elementary School - 2672 Old Hapeville Rd., SW
  • Douglass High School - 225 Hamilton E Holmes Dr., NW
  • Phoenix Academy (formerly Alonzo Crim High School) - 256 Clifton St., SE
  • Sylvan Hills Middle School - 1461 Sylvan Rd., SW

Those who come for the supplies are advised to come prepared to transport four bags of heavy food items.
