ATLANTA — The Greater Atlanta Christian School Concert Choir will soon hit the big stage!
The group will make a trip more than 850 miles away to perform on New York’s legendary concert stage, Carnegie Hall.
“This is something we’ve been working towards for a long time,” said Dr. Marcus Miller, Director of the Concert Choir. “Students can thrive in the arts at GAC, but it’s important we show them that their artistic aspirations can take them anywhere, including to the greatest concert stage in America.”
GAC School Concert Choir will be an integral part of a larger group performing Morten Lauridsen’s contemporary classic, Lux Aeterna for the MidAmerica Productions’ 36th annual concert season.
The school posted a video of some of its students on its Facebook page, talking about the upcoming performance, which will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m.
"To me, going to Carnegie Hall means the world," said Sydney Finks, a student. "I visited New York last year and we actually got to go into the concert hall and learn about the architecture and the history about it."
"I would like to pursue music in my future and going to Carnegie Hall will help me pursue that dream." she added.
"To do this with my school group specifically, also means a lot because it's all my friends and People I've been making music with for the last four years," student Ethan McDonnell said in the video.
Greater Atlanta Christian School Concert Choir will share the stage, as part of a chorus of more than 135.
To make sure every child gets there, there's a fundraising concert and dinner planned for March 11 to help he students with expenses. The event will be held at The Crossing Restaurant in Downtown Norcross. Learn more about the fundraiser and how you can help here.
