Gwinnett Public Schools employees getting $300 bonus checks

The Gwinnett County Board of Education says the money will come from savings the district will see from state health plans.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Teachers and other employees within the Gwinnett County Public Schools system are getting a bit of extra cash.

All full-time, benefited employees who received a payroll check in May will get a $300 lump-sum this month.

The Gwinnett County Board of Education is describing it as a “one-time adjustment … possible due to savings related to the employer contribution the district pays to the State Health Benefit Plan.”

According to a release, Gwinnett County Public Schools CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks recommended those savings be passed on to employees.

“We hope this one-time pay adjustment will send a much-deserved thank you to all of our employees as they are the key to Gwinnett County Public Schools’ success,” Wilbanks said.

According to the education board, similar payments were made in 2016 and 2014.

Gwinnett County Public Schools employees are also due a cost of living increase for the 2020 fiscal year. That will include a $3,000 increase for all employees paid on the teacher salary schedule.
