ATLANTA — Multiple Delta passengers reported delays at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport following an apparent security issue Wednesday night.
At least one Twitter user has shared video that shows a large police presence. The problem also appears to have originated on social media according to authorities with the airport. They told NBC News that a ground stop had been issued due to a threatening tweet.
Delta confirmed that an aircraft, Flight 2234, was evacuated.
Out of an abundance of caution, the aircraft was taken out of service for a security search by law enforcement," a spokesperson for Delta said. "Passengers are being reaccommodated on a different aircraft to their destination."
According to flight-tracking website Flight Aware, the plane was scheduled to take off from Atlanta at 6:35 p.m. before making the 3-hour-30-minute journey to Austin, Texas.
Police confirmed around 8:14 p.m. that they had given the all-clear after inspecting the aircraft.
