ATLANTA -- Georgia State police are on the lookout for a group of men, one of which they said opened fire on one of their officers.
The shooting happened late Sunday evening in the area of Piedmont Avenue and Ellis Street in downtown Atlanta. According to Georgia State Police Chief Joseph Spillane, the officer approached the men and they took off running.
One of the suspects allegedly opened fire and the officer then returned fire. Spillane said he doesn't believe anyone was hit in the exchange.
Police K9 units were on the scene to aid in the search of the men.
Georgia State was put on lockdown but that was later lifted just after midnight. Police said there is no immediate danger as the first day of classes are set to begin on Monday.
