ATLANTA — The Girl Scouts are going high-tech for this year's cookie season.

For the first time ever, buyers will be able to purchase their favorite cookie flavors - without cash.

The organization partnered with a platform called Clover to allow Atlanta customers to purchase Girl Scout cookies using a debit or credit card, in addition to other "smart" payment options, like Apple, Google and Samsung Pay.

The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is part of the pilot program, making the technology available to more than 400 troops across the metro Atlanta area.

This is not the first time the Girl Scouts has upgraded a decades-long tradition with the help of technology. In 2015, the Girl Scouts of America launched the "Digital Cookie," a program that allowed girls to sell cookies to their families and friends through their own personal website.

“We are excited to provide cutting-edge technology options to our girl entrepreneur leaders," said Alantria Harris, Sr. Director, Product Programs and Retail, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. "Girl Scouts has been the leader in encouraging girls to use technology to improve their lives and the lives of others, and we look forward to the success these select troops will have this year."

Select Metro Atlanta troops will begin selling cookies with the help of Clover starting Feb. 18. To find a cookie booth near you, visit showmethecookies.com and enter your zip code to find the dates, times and locations of a Girl Scout Cookie Booth in your area.
