KENNESAW, Ga. — The city of Kennesaw has been forced to temporarily lay off 23 staffers as a result of the effects of the coronavirus on the city.
City officials confirmed to 11Alive on Saturday morning that the layoffs occurred on Friday and are the result of reduced tax revenues.
Those affected are working in departments that have been shut down as a result of the pandemic, including the city museums, Smith-Gilbert Gardens, parks and recreation departments and the city's courts.
Each of those departments have been shut down at least through the middle of May.
The city says it is not clear as to when the workers will be able to return, but they say they plan to bring them back as soon as they can.
