Atlanta to "Light it Blue" tonight

At 8 p.m., many of Atlanta's landmarks will "Light it Blue" as part of a national recognition of those working on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19.

In order to comply with current city and state orders designed to flatten the curve, Atlanta residents should stay home and follow social media for photos and video feeds of the lights.

Some of the landmarks participating are: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia World Congress Center International Plaza, Centennial Olympic Park Amphitheater, Atlanta City Hall, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Skyview Atlanta Ferris wheel, Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, Georgia State Stadium, 14th Street Bridge, Colony Square and several others.

City of South Fulton providing lunch to city's front line employees

The City of South Fulton is partnering with the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce to create a fund that will provide lunches each day for the city’s front line employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, while supporting local restaurants that are feeling the financial pinch created by the virus outbreak.

The South Fulton United Fund will allow residents and businesses to contribute, with all proceeds used to provide meals for some 250 employees in the city’s police, fire, parks and recreation, public works and permitting departments.

“We are excited to introduce yet another way to support our essential staff members as they continue to provide critical services to our 100,000 residents. South Fulton United also allows us to assist our small business community as it works through the financial impacts of COVID19,” said City Manager Odie Donald II. “I am equally thankful for the regional support we have received from businesses, residents and our staff leaders to diversify how we deliver services in the face of this unprecedented pandemic.”

MARTA adds emergency paid sick leave for all employees

MARTA announced it will provide an additional 80 hours of paid sick leave to all employees affected by COVID-19 and will implement the new requirements around Emergency Family and Medical Leave outlined in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

“We understand how difficult it is to be an essential public worker during this pandemic,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Jeffrey Parker. “As we all adapt to this new normal, I want to do everything I can to protect the health of our employees and our customers while continuing to provide essential transit service."

Xpress regional transit making changes, suspending fares

The State Road and Tollway Authority announced they will implement additional service reductions and suspend fares for Xpress transit effective Monday, April 13.

They said Xpress has been experiencing a "significant decrease in ridership" due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the remaining routes that are being served, SRTA is suspending fare collection on all coaches in an effort to eliminate any potential crowding at the farebox, thereby increasing social distancing.

To review the revised schedule for Xpress, visit the website. For more information on SRTA’s efforts and service updates related to COVID-19 prevention, please visit the SRTA website.

"Upon learning of the positive test, we closely followed all local, state and federal health and safety guidelines including rigorous sanitation, disinfecting, and cleaning procedures, in addition to direct communication and support with our store team," a statement said. "We will continue to follow guidance from local, state and federal agencies, including the CDC and other health organizations".
