COVINGTON, Ga. — Police in Covington are searching for answers after a "shots fired" call uncovered a man shot multiple times and left to die on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson Captain Ken Malcom said officers were called to the area of Puckett Street and Chaney Drive around 7:30 p.m. They first found shell casings of two weapons of different calibers in and around the street.

A short time later, police and emergency medical personnel were flagged down by someone who was taking a shooting victim, identified as 33-year-old Michael Stanley, to the hospital. Police said Stanley was shot multiple times and ultimately died of his injuries.

Police are now working to find the people responsible and said they have "developed suspects" in the case. They're now looking for additional leads and asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call Detective Travis Pierce at 678-625-5562.

Captain Malcom said details of the shooting are still under investigation as is the motive. He said evidence has been recovered from the scene and detectives are working to follow up on credible leads in the case.
