ATLANTA — It's an annual tradition that has taken on a new twist this year. With the Easter holiday this weekend, several non-profit organizations are having to find new ways to get food to those in need.
One of those programs is Hosea Helps.
This year, Hosea Helps is at the Maggie Russell Towers in northeast Atlanta, where Hosea Helps dropped off food Saturday morning.
The group they were most concerned about this year -- isolated seniors. This is a critical time to get them help.
11Alive News caught up with volunteers with the Atlanta organization as they were packing up meals for the Hosea Helps annual Easter dinner delivery.
Easter is coming a day early for many seniors and families across metro Atlanta.
On Saturday, drivers will head out to distribute meals to the hardest hit communities.
Hosea on the Move delivery trucks will stop at several senior living centers and apartment communities across the region.
Also on Saturday morning, 11Alive News caught up with volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
Volunteers there were also packing up meals all morning -- calling it Super Saturday.
In light of the COVID-19 epidemic, Meals on Wheels is "front-loading" people with enough food for two weeks.
Delivering to people on their regular routes, they are dropping food off at the door of seniors.
On Saturday, Meals on Wheels said they planned to deliver to 15,000 meals. About 600 seniors are on their waiting list.
The hope is to someday not have a waitlist.
