ATLANTA — Emory Healthcare announced that its hospitals will be postponing all inpatient and outpatient elective surgeries and procedures starting Monday.
The decision, according to Emory, is in hopes of limiting the chance of coronavirus being spread there. In a news release, the hospital group said that the surgeries will initially be postponed for two weeks. However, Emory will look at the decision to continue them again on a week-to-week basis from then on.
"We are currently contacting all patients and their physicians to alert them of the decision and to offer our support during this time when their cases are being postponed," Emory said in their recent statement.
Emory Healthcare also hopes the decision will help them preserve supplies, equipment, and staffing "for the most urgent and time-sensitive patient needs."
