CUMMING, Ga. — Jonathan Ng is facing a tough decision of whether to stay open in the days and weeks to come as he, like many others, comes to grips with the impact coronavirus is having locally.
But while tough decisions may be coming soon, Jonathan and others at Ichiban Steak & Sushi in Cumming, Georgia have decided to help those who are on the front lines of this viral battleground.
Jonathan, who owns the restaurant started sending love in the form of dinner, Japanese hibachi, and sushi to the intensive care unit and pulmonary staff at Northside Hospital in Cumming. It's their way of expressing appreciation for people who are already putting their lives on the line to help bring COVID-19 under control.
"We are so thankful for healthcare staff and the sacrifices they do," he wrote to 11Alive.
Jonathan said he planned to do one more food drop on Saturday night.
"We would like to donate more, however, with the recent events, it is extremely hard for us to keep our doors open," he said.
The business has been continuing delivery and takeout. However, the response to this virus and social distancing have slowed business - a pattern felt across the United States.
He believes that Saturday night could be their last night open for a while. But on that night, the restaurant is doing what it can for people are doing everything they can.
In a post on social media, Jonathan shared a short but heartfelt message from outside the hospital entrance: "Mission complete! Good luck tonight guys! Stay safe."
