HAMPTON, Ga. — Hundreds of cars waited in line at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday and passed through to get free food being offered by community organizations.
Striking aerial images showed multiple rows of cars stretching the full length of the race track's sprawling parking lot, behind the main concourse.
The food drive was organized by organized by AMS, Hampton Elementary and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
"It's just awesome they're out here. No water, no shade - just awesome," one woman at the food drive, Dorothy Bridgers, told 11Alive's Stephen Boissy. "It's a blessing ... we have four kids in the house, so this is just - I can't even express how awesome it is."
Families were eligible to receive up to 30-40 pounds of free food.

"Our Speedway has always had a sense of community. We take pride in looking for ways to give back to Henry County and the residents of the surrounding area, particularly during these uncertain times," Brandon Hutchinson, the speedway's executive vice president and general manager, said in a release earlier this week. "That's why we're proud to be teaming up with Hampton Elementary and the Atlanta Community Food Bank to put on these market days and make a positive difference for Hampton families."
The speedway will play host to a food drive again next Friday, April 24, opening at 11 a.m.
Those who wish to pick up food at the event are asked to enter on Friday via the speedway's main entrance off Highway 19/41.
