CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A Cherokee County study center that closed down amid exposure to the coronavirus outbreak is set to reopen, the school says.
The Living Science Homeschool Study Center closed to students after a 15-year-old Fulton County coronavirus patient attended a class there about two days before showing symptoms. The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) told the study center for homeschooled students it did not have to close its campus, but would voluntarily do so, until March 12. The timeline would encompass a two-week incubation period dating back to when the teen attended the class.
On Tuesday, March 10, the center announced that there have been no confirmed or presumed-positive cases of the coronavirus, called COVID-19, among students or faculty during the campus closure. As the two-week transmission period ends on Wednesday, March 11, the campus is scheduled to re-open on Thursday, March 12.
During the closure, the center performed a complete remediation, disinfecting and sanitizing all buildings for COVID-19.
According to Fulton County health officials, that teenager began showing symptoms on Friday - two days after his father - a 56-year-old who had recently traveled to Milan, Italy, for work. The son and his father were the first two known cases of coronavirus in Georgia. The state has since confirmed six positive cases of COVID-19, though there are several other presumptive-positive cases.
