Truck drivers serve BBQ to Cartersville healthcare workers

They wanted to give back to those on the front lines.

ATLANTA — With so many tough news headlines right now, we want to also share the many ways people are sending the love.

A group of Cartersville truck drivers decided to show their appreciation for health care workers with a big barbecue.

Tony Maynard and his fellow drivers at Kevin Westmoreland trucking wanted to give back to medical staffs.

One driver happens to own a side barbecue business.

So, after reaching out to the Cartersville Medical Center drivers and office staff, they suited up in masks and gloves, and set up a food drive Saturday afternoon.

"It was just a small part of a way for us to say thank you for what they do," Maynard said.

Grateful doctors and nurses -- especially since the center's cafeteria is closed on Saturday.

"The hours that they work, and the time that they put in... It's just unreal. And there were a lot of doctors and nurses that couldn't come out to us so we were loading carts up -- 10, 15 20 plates at a time," Maynard said.

"Even with the masks and the gloves and the scrubs, you could see the smiles on these people's faces that were just glad for us to be there," Maynard added.

Truck drivers, essential workers themselves, just happy to give back to those on the front lines of the coronavirus.

"They were calling us angels, thanking us for being there and we were telling them how much of an angel and how much of a blessing they were," Maynard said. "There's so much bad news out there, so much bad stuff"

"We don't really take into consideration what all our doctors and nurses and medical staff really do for us," Maynard said.  "It's heartfelt -- knowing that they're doing everything for us that they can."
