While some local businesses remain closed, others continue to remain open

Even coming up with new solutions to help their customers

ATLANTA — While some businesses are closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, others are keeping their doors open. Some of them considered essential businesses.

Emil Alvin says he's proud to be able to help his community during these trying times.

"If you really need a service on your vehicle, we come to Woodstock, if we have to," Alvin said.

In Metro Atlanta, public transportation isn't accessible to some.

"Having a vehicle to be able to be mobile is very, very important, of course, it's essential," he said.

Alvin owns A&S Auto Services - an auto repair shop - on Buford Highway. The businesses around him, including the mall nearby, shut down while he remains operational, serving clients while trying to keep his employees and customers safe - even coming up with a new solution for those adhering to the social distancing guidelines.

"We are going to pick up your car from your house, we are going to bring it back to the shop, cover the seats with plastic, cover the seat with the floor mat, use the gloves, do the repair, take it back to your house," he said.

Like Alvin, veterinarian Dr. Michael Good continues to clock in - day in and day out - as people remain at home with their pets, and continue to need services.

"We wear masks, we wear gloves, and what we try to do is get the people in a room and then I will talk to them, but I'm protected, you know? And they aren't going to get anything from me other than hopefully, good advice," Dr. Good said.
