83-year-old man dies in northwest Georgia house fire

The coroner has identified the victim.

ARAGON, Ga. — Firefighters who managed to get a midnight house fire under control in Polk County made a tragic find inside.

Both Rockmart and Polk County fire departments responded to a fire on 3rd Street in Aragon to reports of a structure fire. Polk County Fire reported that it took many hours to get the fire extinguished.

Unfortunately, they also found the body of a person who didn't survive. The victim has since been identified as 83-year-old Bobby Brinkley of Aragon, according to Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with this person's family and friends," Polk County Fire wrote. "Also prayers for all the first responders who handled the call."

Brazier said the man's body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for a postmortem investigation which he said was standard procedure.

At this point, the coroner said there is no foul play suspected, though several local agencies are still investigating.
