Couple arrested for stealing ice machine, meat slicer, and more from school

Some items stolen included 60 iPads, an ice maker, band instruments, and even a meat sliver from the cafeteria.

ATHENS, Ga. – A couple is facing multiple charges after being accused of stealing over $65,000 worth of items from an Athens school.

On Thursday, Athens-Clarke County Police issued warrants for Eric Aguilar and Sierra Yuhas related to thefts at Coile Middle School between June 1 and July 11 of this year.

Police said Aguilar, who was working as a contractor at the school over the summer, stole items throughout his employment with the help of his wife, Yuhas.

Officials said there was evidence that the couple was directly involved in taking over $65,000 worth of items from the school including 60 iPads, an ice maker, band instruments, copper wiring, and even a meat slicer from the cafeteria.

Aguilar was charged with multiple counts of felony theft by taking, misdemeanor theft by taking, and misdemeanor theft by deception. Yuhas was charged with multiple counts of theft by taking.

Police said they have only recovered the ice machine, various school supplies, and some instruments.
