Man charged with malice murder after overnight shooting in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. -- One person is charged in the shooting that left a man dead Tuesday night.

Athens-Clarke County Police arrested Randy Levrette on Wednesday around 3:50 a.m.

Police were called to Cedar Shoals Drive just after 11 p.m. Tuesday for possible gunshots in the area, near Perry's Convenience Store.

When they arrived, they found David Cooper injured from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The investigation revealed that Levrette was sitting in a car when Cooper and another person approached him, according to police. There was an argument and shots were fired, injuring Cooper.

Levrette left the scene, but police arrested him hours later at the Parkview Homes Apartments.
