Motorcyclist identified following fatal Athens crash

Police said he was traveling down the hill through a left-hand curve when he merged back into the lane and went off the road.

ATHENS, Ga. – Police identified the 40-year-old man who died after his motorcycle crashed into a guardrail on Tuesday.

Athens-Clarke County Police said Jason McElhannon of Colbert, Ga. was driving a Yamaha motorcycle on Collins Industrial Boulevard towards Athena Drive when he passed a car on the double yellow lines.

Police said he was traveling down the hill through a left-hand curve when he merged back into the lane. McElhannon then went off the road to the right and struck a guardrail.

Police said he was ejected from his motorcycle and landed on the road.

McElhannon was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
